Abby's dance studio had its dress rehearsal for the upcoming competition season last Saturday. All of the dance routines were performed (hers is a fairly small studio with just 31 competition dancers). I know the mom of one of the new dancers on the team.

I saw the new dancer toting a Dream Duffel and was pretty impressed by that. A Dream Duffel probably isn't something that people outside of the dance world are familiar with.

I struck up a conversation with the mom and told her that I was impressed her daughter had a Dream Duffel before she'd even been to a dance competition. The mom laughed and said she did feel like they were on their A game by having a Dream Duffel. She told me that several of the moms whom her daughter will be dancing with on the team told her about the bag and how great it was. That got me thinking about our DD and how far along it's (and we've) come. I did a review of our Dream Duffel almost four years ago that you can read about. I wanted to do an updated version of the review since a lot of time (and a lot of competitions) have occurred since then.We bought our Dream Duffel in 2010 for the 2011 dance season.

It was Abby's second year on her studio's dance competition team and was her first year of doing a solo dance. Since Abby's had her DD here are some of the places it's been:. Lots of competitions in Ohio (the state where we reside) including competitions in Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo.

Numerous competitions in Indianapolis, IN. Several competitions in Louisville, KY. Its longest journey- Ocean City, MA for nationals a couple of years ago. Abby and I have been further for dance. We've been to Orlando, FL twice but we flew both times and didn't take the DD with us.At every competition that we've been to with it, I'm glad that we have it.

One year, I think it was three years ago, Abby was in nine routines. We were able to fit all of her costumes and shoes in the bag.The inside of the bag is spacious (even ours, a size medium).

Pockets line the sides to hold smaller items like hair spray, extra tights, etc. The pockets are mesh material which is nice because you can see what is in the pocket.

One part that I find the most convenient is a pocket in the inside front made of mesh. This pocket is so easily accessible because the front is always going to be open, if the bag is open as a garment holder. I put items that I need to have quick access to in this pocket because I don't have to worry about digging around in the bag for them.

It's hard to believe that Abby is on the downward arc with her competition dancing- she only has this upcoming season and three more after that before she's finished with high school and competitive dance. Regarding the Dream Duffel bag, it's definitely aged but it's so well made that I'm sure it's going to last us another four seasons. I've taken some pictures to show some of its imperfections as it has aged.Going up and down stairways with the Dream Duffel has probably aged the DD the most. Several times, we've been to competitions where our dressing room was on the second floor of a building and the competition was held on the first floor. Each thump of the DD on stairs jars it a little. It's a pain to haul such a big bag up and down stairs.

But, then I think about how much harder it would be without the DD. All of the items that are in the DD would need to be brought up and down the stairs; it would take many trips to get all of the items up and down as opposed to getting everything transported in one bag.For the last three dance competitions, the vehicle I drove to the competition in was a BMW X5. The Dream Duffel occupied exactly half of the back part of the car. That worked out really well since we drove Abby's dance friend Hanna and her mom to several competitions; Hanna has a medium sized DD, too so each girls' DD took exactly half of the space in the back.If you read my in Louisville, you'll remember a fright I had with my BMW. I was in my car at the hotel where we were staying when a notice appeared on my car's dash. It said WARNING- Do Not Drive- Not Enough Oil- Engine Could Fail- or something like that.

I freaked out a little or a lot. The warning disappeared the next time I turned the car on. Still, I had BMW of Louisville look at it. They determined it was a quart low on oil- not dangerously low by any means. I had them change the oil (I was due for an oil change) and add the requisite oil to get it to the correct level.About a month ago, I noticed an usual sound emanating from the motor. The car drove perfectly fine and no warning notices appeared.

Still, it was a sound that I knew I couldn't ignore. I wasn't too worried. I mean, if the car issued a freak out warning that turned out to be nothing major, surely no warning from the car meant that it would be nothing major, right?

Both estimates that I received for the repair were $6000.00. Yes, that's right- $6000. Something about a timing change something or other. 40 hours of labor just to determine what the problem was- what the what??We cut our losses with the car (we'd put in literally thousands (besides car payments)) into the car already) and I got a new (used) Lexus SUV. And an all encompassing long term warranty in case we inadvertently purchased another lemon. All that to say, I don't know how perfectly the DD will fit into my Lexus. I know it will fit and most importantly, I'm not worried about Engine Failure notices and 40 labor hour timing chain issues.Back to the Dream Duffel (exclusively!), I can't say enough good things about ours. I can't imagine the previous eight years of dance competitions without one.

Of course we could have gotten by without one. But, having a large bag that holds everything dance related that we need and that converts into a garment rack has made travelling to and travelling within dance competitions much nicer.I receive emails from Dream Duffel and I received one earlier this year that mentioned standard shipping and handling costs are now FREE.

That is a wonderful change. If I remember correctly, I paid almost $60 in shipping and handling fees for our DD when I bought it. In fact, I almost didn't buy it because of those fees. They seemed incredibly high to me. I actually called the company and asked if they would be running any promotions for free shipping in the near future. The lady I talked to was very friendly but said that the company doesn't run free shipping promotions.

The change to free ground shipping is great for those purchasing their Dream Duffels now;).Here are some pictures depicting the wear and tear that our DD has after eight years. All of the imperfections are minor, cosmetic issues. All of the zippers, fasteners and extension features work perfectly. When I bought Abby's Dream Duffel, I also bought hangers and garment bags from DD. We know several dancers who bought a DD bag but bought garment bags elsewhere to save money. I understand doing that from a cost savings perspective, but I don't regret buying the DD brand garment bags. They are constructed out of a heavy plastic.

They have numerous zippered pockets. That feature is nice because you can add everything piece you need for a particular routine- costume, hair piece, any additional accessories, tights, shoes, etc. If it's still there, the video helped to fix our leaning garment bar about 2 years ago (we have a large that's 8 years old as well). Also - we second how well the DD has held up.

We have had to replace the handle assembly and the wheels once, but our duffel has been pretty abused:). Netherworld. It consistently holds 15-20 costumes (shoes include) and has help up to 28. As for cost.I remember getting heart palpitations 8 years ago when we ordered our large package.now it's a heart attack, but it really is well worth it considering the ease of carrying everything through hotels and also packing.
