Dust 514 (also known as EVE: Dust 514) is a free-to-play first-person shooter that is being developed exclusively for the PlayStation 3 by CCP Games.
The game will be incorporated into the EVE Online Universe, which means it also features MMORPG elements. The battlefields in Dust 514 will determine who controls territory within EVE Online's world, and EVE Online players will contract players of Dust 514 to invade territory.

Development
August 2009 - Dust 514 was annpunced at the Game Developer's Conference in Cologne, Germany. A short trailer, which included real time game footage, was also shown.
Story
Dust 514 takes place in the same universe as the science fiction MMORPG Eve Online, where humanity used up all of Earth's resources and so rapidly colonised the rest of the Milky Way Galaxy thanks to the discovery of faster-than-light travel and an empty wormhole.

Corporations

Gameplay
Dust 514 is a first person shooter with MMO elements, where players take on the role of freelance mercenaries available to hire by Eve Online players. They will also be able to seize territory for their own corporations.
Dropsuits
The mercenary soldiers of DUST 514 enter combat wearing dropsuits designed to protect them from both the elements and enemy fire. With a variety of specialized designs available, different dropsuits offer specific bonuses to speed, mobility, defense and configurability. Like starships and planetary vehicles, each dropsuit design comes with a unique slot configuration and powergrid (PG) and CPU that permit a range of customizations. The number and type of slots determine the modules, weapons, and equipment that can be fitted.

Weapons
Players are able to use different classes of weapon in different load-outs so that they can make meaningful tactical choices and respond to changing situations on the field of battle. There are three basic weapon classes: sidearms, light weapons and heavy weapons. Additionally, all dropsuits come equipped with a Nova Knife.

Vehicles
Vehicles play a large role on the battlefield in Dust 514. Heavily armored units use long-range, heavy, concussive attacks while lighter units utilize their speed and flexibility.

Neocom Vita App
Dust 514 Neocom is a companion application that will be launched on the PlayStation Vita, which will allow players to modify their characters and vehicles, as well as interact with other players and conduct in-game transactions.
Currency
Unlike Eve Online, which uses a subscription-based payment model, Dust 514 will be fee to play. As such it will rely instead on micro-transactions.
